Due to the complex nature of farming, most of the data generated on agricultural fields every day is scattered across multiple sources, from machine data platforms, to digital farming tools, from farm management software systems, to agronomists ‘log-books’, and so on.
Each of these providers use a different system to refer to the fields they cover, creating enormous fragmentation and making it time consuming to aggregate data.
Global Field ID attempts to break this "silo effect" by offering a common spatial reference system to make aggregation of farm & field data easier and simpler.
It’s a necessary pillar for data discovery and a "common good" that can improve collaboration within the industry and liberate resources for the development of more useful services for growers.
Our ultimate vision is to arrive at a unique ID for each field in the world.
