The golden age of AgTech: here are the most promising startups
The AgTech sector consists in the application of technology, especially software and hardware technology, to farming – aiming to make farming more time and resources efficient and to respond to the challenges of growing demands on food and threats from climate change.
A fast and dynamic change is needed, and startups can help to quickly harness digitalisation for innovation in the agricultural sector. Incubators around the world are working to embrace and accelarate this procecss, brining together purpose, scalability, profits, and shared value for the community.
Venture capitalists are seizing on the AgTech boom. The 2021 Annual AgTech Report by Pitchbook, released in March this year, estimates $10.5 billion in investments allocated by funders worldwide. It is especially the medium-term forecast that investors are keen on: the commercial value of the average AgTech start-up has often grown by 58 percent per year. Not surprisingly, in 2021, the number of deals between startuppers and VCs was the highest ever: an impressive 758.
